Geoff Day
Retired from the
Bank of Montreal in 1991 as Senior
Vice-President, Corporate and Government Banking, Western Canada, having served
in several management positions in various locations in both national and international
operations, since joining the Bank in 1953. Active in community affairs in Vancouver
since arriving in that city in 1983, serving as Director of the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra,
B.C. Sports Hall of Fame and Museum,
Vancouver Art Gallery,
Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club and the Forest Alliance of B.C. Also chaired fund-raising
committees for the Vancouver General Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society, Science
World and the Salvation Army Appeal. Acted as the Financial Agent for the successful
M.L.A. of Delta South in the Provincial Elections in 1996 and 2001. Served as Vice-Chairman
of the Boundary Bay Airport Advisory Committee, advising the Corporation of Delta
on operations and development of the Airport which was purchased from Transport
Canada. Geoff completed a four and a half year term as Commissioner and Vice-Chairman of
the Fraser River Harbour Commission prior to that becoming the
Fraser River Port Authority. Served
as Director of Northern Trust Company, Canada, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the
Northern Trust Corporation,
Chicago. Mr. Day has held executive positions with the Bank of Montreal in the international
area resulted in considerable travel globally contacting and negotiating with Governments,
Central Banks, major financial institutions and overseeing operations of the Bank's
representative offices throughout the world.
Michael O'Brian
Michael O’Brian began his career in the investment business in 1969 as an advisor
with Pitfield Mackay Ross (later Dominion Securities). In 1986, he became Director
and Vice-President of Canaccord Capital Corporation. In 1991, Michael purchased
a controlling interest in C.M. Oliver & Company Limited through PlanVest Capital
Corporation (later, C.M. Oliver Inc.), a publicly listed company, in which he was
President and controlling shareholder. C.M. Oliver Inc. subsequently became one
of Canada’s fastest growing companies, which employed over 700 employees. C.M. Oliver
was sold in 1998. Michael is also a director of several publicly trading companies
and is active as an advisor to several investment funds.

Theresa Carbonneau
Theresa Carbonneau has +20 years management experience in international marketing
and operations, spent predominantly in the ICT sector. Theresa was the Founder,
President and Chief Executive Officer of fSONA Communications Corporation, a manufacturer
of free space optical wireless transmission equipment. Prior to founding fSONA in
1997, Ms. Carbonneau held a number of executive positions with telecom carriers
in Europe and Canada. She is currently a consultant on a variety of technology related
projects. Ms. Carbonneau is a graduate of University College London, England and has a Masters
degree from the University of Toronto, Canada.

Steven Beeghly
Steven Beeghly is a Partner at Montlake Law Group, PLLC. Insurance executive and
lawyer. He has executive-level insurance experience from start-up insurance and
reinsurance entities. His operational experience includes, including governance,
licensure, administration, underwriting, regulatory, reinsurance, market-issues,
oversight of accounting and actuarial functions. Steven’s legal skills include servicing
clients nationwide, including insurance and reinsurance entities, producers, businesses,
groups, and associations often in creation of their own insurance profit center.

Alex Bernhardt
Alex Bernhardt is an Assistant Vice President in Guy Carpenter & Company’s Seattle
office. During his tenure with Guy Carpenter, Alex has contributed content to industry
publications - including a recent series entitled A Soft Market Solution: MGA’s
and Risk Sharing in the Insurance Journal - and has worked on an array of internal
initiatives, accounts and lines of business. In particular, he has gained expertise
in the following specialized segments of insurance: Program Business, Alternative
Risk Transfer, Public Entity Business, Tribal Entity Business, Intellectual Property
Insurance and Microinsurance. Alex spearheaded Guy Carpenter’s recent grant writing
initiative culminating in the firm’s receipt of a grant from the Microinsurance
Innovation Facility - a partnership between the International Labour Organization
and the Gates Foundation. This grant has enabled Guy Carpenter to pursue the creation
of a multiline global microreinsurance facility. Alex is coordinating all related
efforts alongside his Guy Carpenter Micro Risk Solutions group colleagues. Alex
also sits on the board of SeattleMicrofinance.org (SeaMo), a nonprofit organization
with a significant online presence, a successful event series and an international
subscriber base, which is dedicated to connecting the microfinance community in
the Pacific Northwest, nationally and abroad. Alex has obtained the designations
of Associate of Reinsurance, Associate of Risk Management for Public Entities and
Associate of Insurance Services. Alex graduated from the University of Puget Sound
in Tacoma, WA with a Bachelors degree in English and Philosophy.

Arvind Ashta
Arvind Ashta, PhD, holds the Microfinance Chair of the Burgundy School of Business
(Groupe ESC Dijon-Bourgogne), France. He is a professor of finance, control and
law and is member of its research center CEREN. He offers courses in Microfinance
and this is currently his main field of research (regulatory aspects of Microfinance
and advanced technology in Microfinance). He has taught Microfinance as visiting
faculty in Chicago (US), Pforzheim (Germany) and Brussels (Belgium). He holds a
B.A. (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, a PGDM from
IIM Calcutta and a Doctorat in Law from the University of Paris 2 (Panthéon-Assas).
He worked 17 years in Corporate Enterprises in India and France in the fields on
Management Control and Accounting before entering academics. He has a number of
publications in International journals in behavioural finance, corporate social
responsibility and in microfinance, notably in the Journal of Economic Issues.
